Objective
It is a master’s course which deals with study of plants, their characteristics and various related aspects in detail. Students who want to make career in plant biology can take up Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Botany. Our colleges offer full time M.Sc. Botany course. The duration of the course is 2-year.
The Department of Botany has created a niche for itself in the college by achieving high repute in academic and co-curricular activities. Enriched by the legacy of some very renowned teachers in the past, the department is proud to have a committed faculty. The department inculcates scientific and experimental spirit in the students. The Department pursues a mantra of holistic development of a student, inculcation of a scientific temper by supplementing the conventional classroom and modern teaching with botanical excursions, seminars, guest lectures by eminent scientists, slide shows, quiz competitions, scientific debates etc. to help the students metamorphose his personality. Furthermore, the activities of the Botanical Society give opportunities to students to develop and display their talents. Botany being an important component to life Sciences, offers immense opportunities for further studies in Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Plants Molecular Biology, Genomics, Environmental Science and other related fields. The Department is having many eminent alumni, who occupy important academic and professional positions in State.
Scope
M.Sc Botany provides a vast number of options to students. After finishing the course, candidates can choose to work both private and public sector. They can explore employment opportunities in public health service, agriculture department, forest service, departments of conservation, and land management. In private sector, they can opt for jobs in food companies, seed companies, plant biotechnology firms, and agriculture product companies.
Eligibility
Students need to meet the following common eligibility criteria in order to apply for admission in MSc Botany. However, students must remember that the eligibility criteria can vary from university to university.
- The student must have passed BSc Graduation.
- Students who have opted for BSc Botany/Biology are generally given more preference.
